Violet Evergarden: The Movie Special Edition Blu-ray + 4K UHD
劇場版 ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデン 特別版
A story that moves the heart, music that resonates, and animation that stays in the memory: Violet Evergarden’s life continues to captivate audiences. After a world tour held before the television premiere, a series celebrated for its emotional storytelling and delicate yet dynamic images, orchestral concerts that drew audiences into its world, and the worldwide response to Eternity and the Auto Memory Doll, the story reaches its finale. In a changing world on the threshold of a new era, where will Violet’s letters—and the feelings woven into them—finally arrive? A final letter to someone beloved offers a story of love both enduring and universal.
“What does ‘I love you’ mean?” Violet Evergarden now works as a professional letter writer, conveying other people’s feelings in words. Having fought as a soldier since childhood without the chance to develop her own emotions, she could not understand the words left by her treasured commanding officer, Gilbert Bougainvillea: “From the bottom of my heart, I love you.” He was the person who tried to teach her love, the person whose hand she lost, and someone she longs to see again.
Several years have passed since the war that left so many people deeply wounded. New technologies are transforming daily life, and people are beginning to move forward. Violet, however, still believes that Gilbert may be alive somewhere and spends her days thinking of him. “Dear Major Gilbert, I found myself remembering you again today.” Her heartfelt wish fades quietly into the night.
On the monthly anniversary of Gilbert’s mother’s death, Violet brings flowers as though taking his place. One day she encounters his older brother, Colonel Dietfried, who urges her to forget Gilbert. Her answer is unwavering: “I cannot forget.” Then a boy named Yuris calls to request her letter-writing services, while an undeliverable letter is discovered in the postal company’s warehouse.
This special edition includes a newly illustrated special case and a 66-page full-colour booklet featuring cast comments, animation drawings with the director’s explanations, a gallery of theatrical illustrations, official stage-greeting and staff-talk screening reports, and an illustrated contribution from the director. Reproductions of Violet’s letter, early image-board cards, short-story booklet cover-art cards and a theatrical-poster card accompany the release. Promotional videos, a release-celebration stage greeting and three audio commentaries round out the programme.
An exclusive booklet explores the creation of the theatrical presentation, including a conversation between the director and technical staff.
