Warau Matryoshka Blu-ray Box draws a newspaper reporter into the unsettling relationship between a rising politician and the secretary who has shaped his career. Asami Mizukawa, Tetsuji Tamayama and Sho Sakurai lead this political suspense drama, adapted from Kazumasa Hayami's novel, in which public charm conceals a history of ambition, manipulation and suspicious deaths.

In April 2022, young lawmaker Ichiro Seike joins a newly formed cabinet as Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. His liberal image and engaging smile have made him a popular figure and a possible future prime minister. Reporter Kanae Michiue visits his former school in Matsuyama while preparing an article about his autobiography, but a teacher's memories reveal a very different young man from the confident public figure she expected.

She also learns about Toshiya Suzuki, the strategist who guided Seike into the student presidency and still serves as his secretary. Despite his influence, Suzuki is absent from Seike's autobiography. Michiue begins asking why such an important relationship has been left out of the story. Then her estranged father, a former investigative reporter, calls to discuss something he has been researching. During their conversation, he is killed in a sudden traffic accident.

As Michiue follows the connections between the two men, their past and her father's death, more people and disturbing incidents emerge. The series traces the struggle to uncover who is controlling whom, with an ensemble including Tomomi Maruyama, Masato Wada, Dai Watanabe, Ryosuke Sota, Masaya Kato, Mariko Tsutsui and Saki Takaoka.

The set contains all eleven episodes, running approximately 491 minutes, along with 119 minutes of supplements. These include making-of footage, candid cast conversations, a discussion recorded before episode two, on-set reports, filming wrap-ups and promotional spots preserved as disc extras. A 28-page booklet accompanies the four region-free Blu-rays. The programme is presented in 16:9 1080i with Japanese Linear PCM stereo audio; Japanese accessibility subtitles are included for the main episodes only.
