100 Eshi 2022 is the fourth volume in a series surveying contemporary Japanese illustration since 2009. It presents one hundred artists from commercial publishing, social platforms and independent publications, bringing together character work from manga, animation, light novels and games.
The selection extends to backgrounds, scene-setting and the textures of designed objects, reflecting the widening role of illustration in areas such as Vocaloid music and virtual performers. Artist profiles include contact information and working environments, giving the volume a second role as a directory of creative practice.
Range Murata provides a newly drawn cover, and six newly commissioned illustrations open the book. Other featured contributors include H2SO4, U35, Sheya, SWAV, Nardack, neco, NOCO, PALOW., Hiten, mocha, lack, LAM, rurudo and Rella. Brilliant Palette printing aims to reproduce the colour of digital artwork faithfully. Edited by Remic and BNN, this modified-B5 volume contains 224 pages.
