100 Years of Japanese School Uniforms follows girls' uniforms from their Western-style beginnings in the 1910s through the Taisho and Reiwa eras. Examples from 42 schools bring together 105 historic and current uniforms, photographs and 129 new Mebachi illustrations under Nobuyuki Mori's supervision.

Six basic forms introduce sailor suits, blazers with skirts, collarless jackets with skirts, dresses, jumper skirts and suits. Later chapters examine surviving traditional designs and contemporary choices such as trousers and hoodies. Drawings on torso forms clarify details and silhouettes, while glimpses of school life place the clothes in context.

Historical columns trace school-designated belts worn with hakama, compulsory wartime shawl collars and monpe trousers, boys' adoption of blazers from the 1960s, altered uniforms popular in the late 1970s, manufacturers' school-identity initiatives in the 1980s, and relaxed styling in the 1990s. Arranged as a visit to an imaginary uniform museum, this 136-page Japanese-language Shogakukan guide was produced with cooperation from Kanko Gakuseifuku.
