A Mangaka's Weirdly Wonderful Workplace Animation

Can an aspiring manga artist keep smiling through a career full of setbacks? This working-women comedy explores the manga industry through a lively cast of distinctive personalities.

Nana Futami is a newcomer to shojo manga. With help from her cool-headed editor and dependable assistants, she finally launches the shogi manga she has always wanted to make, Subaru e. But stress upsets her stomach so badly that she needs an extension from the very first chapter. When the storyboards refuse to progress, she stays chained to her desk late into the night. Midnight snacks add to her weight, while her unruly imagination will not leave her alone. Can she enjoy this difficult manga-making life with a smile?

The complete thirteen-episode series arrives in a digipak newly illustrated by Kuzushiro and a windowed sleeve case. A 28-page special booklet includes a substantial sixteen-page newly drawn comic, cast and staff interviews, and cover illustrations for manga appearing within the anime. Four die-cut stickers reproduce the ending sequence’s miniature-character illustrations.

Three cast commentaries accompany episodes one, seven and eleven, featuring Yuko Natsuyoshi and Miku Ito; Sora Amamiya and Iori Saeki; and Yu Kobayashi, Eriko Matsui and Miharu Hanai respectively. Creditless opening and ending sequences complete the bonus programme.
