Asagao: Forensic Doctor Blu-ray Box

A forensic scientist and a detective form an unusual father-and-daughter partnership. Carrying the memory of a mother and wife who went missing in the Great East Japan Earthquake, the two search for the evidence of life left by the dead. This moving drama follows their irreplaceable everyday lives.

Asagao Maki is a young forensic scientist who confronts bodies with determination and sincerity, sometimes going beyond the boundaries of her own work to establish the cause of death and find evidence of the life each person lived. Supporting her as both a father and a professional partner is the veteran detective Taira Maki. Asagao uses autopsies and Taira uses investigations to unravel the mysteries surrounding the bodies. The drama combines this suspense with a heartfelt portrayal of how the evidence they discover brings comfort to those left behind.

Asagao and Taira also share a painful past: the Great East Japan Earthquake of March 11, 2011. Even now, people remain missing, and Asagao's mother is one of them. The earthquake took away her body, the very evidence that she had lived. Asagao immerses herself in forensic work to uncover that evidence for other people, while Taira travels to Tohoku whenever he has time to search for his wife's remains. Each episode explores a different case, while the series as a whole richly portrays the precious days of a father and daughter who lean on one another, sharing smiles and tears and gradually moving forward as if trying to fill even a small part of the void left by her absence.

Asagao Maki works in the forensic medicine department at Koun University in Kanagawa Prefecture. Although she is a newcomer, her excellent skills and extensive knowledge have already earned the respect of those around her. Honest, loving and kind-hearted, she is more likely to concern herself with another person's feelings than with her own.

She lives closely alongside her father Taira, a detective who has devoted his career to investigations. Casual conversations and gentle smiles fill their everyday lives, which have remained unchanged since March 11, 2011. Yet her mother Satoko is absent. On that day, Satoko had returned to the seaside town in Tohoku where she was born and raised, to visit her father Hiroyuki Shimada.
