Boy's Abyss Blu-ray Box

A tragic love story about a boy drifting in the depths of despair. The hit manga serialized in Weekly Young Jump, with over one million copies in circulation, receives its long-awaited live-action adaptation. Towa Araki stars in a drama that uses the theme of a suicide pact to examine human desires and the darkness of the heart.

Ryo Minenami's original Boy's Abyss began serialization in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump in 2020. It placed eleventh in the comics category of the 2021 Next Manga Awards and had surpassed one million copies in circulation as of July 2022.

The drama develops a blend of realism, darkness and desire. A boy trapped by the stifling rural environment in which he grew up, his family, childhood friends and teacher form a group of sharply distinctive characters in a tragic love story beginning with a proposed suicide pact. It asks whether there is hope in being alive. In an era when the pandemic weakened connections with others, it draws attention to an ultimate question anyone might face. Hinako Kitano, who graduated from Nogizaka 46 in April 2022, was selected as the heroine in her first major serial-drama appearance, while Rena Matsui, active in television, film and theatre, also takes on a role exploring new territory.

Story: Reiji Kurose is in his second year of high school, merely going through the motions while bound to his town and family. He lives in an uneventful rural town with his mother, a nursing assistant, his withdrawn older brother and his grandmother, who has dementia. Wanting to ease his mother's burden, he plans to work rather than go to university. Deep down he longs to leave, but he has half given up and drifts through the days, knowing the town holds him captive. An idol he admires unexpectedly proposes that they die together. A childhood friend has promised they will leave town. His teacher becomes fixated on him; his mother binds her son to her; and a delinquent was once his close friend. Where can the boy find hope in life? Is there light ahead?
