Bungo Stray Dogs Stage & Musicals

The hit film Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple comes to the stage. With more than eight million copies of the original series published, Bungo Stray Dogs had already expanded into three television anime seasons and a theatrical film.

The first stage adaptation, based on the opening television anime story arc, played in 2017 and sold out every seat amid an enthusiastic response. The much-loved Dark Era followed in 2018. In 2019, the production expanded considerably, taking the battle against the Guild to five cities with a company of thirty-two performers.

In 2020, Hashigaki presented two stories based on The Untold Origins of the Detective Agency and Osamu Dazai’s Entrance Exam, with theatre performances and live streaming. Following those acclaimed productions, this new stage work adapts the successful 2018 film Dead Apple.

Story: Atsushi Nakajima of the Armed Detective Agency encounters a strange, long-haired man on a Yokohama street. He has a feeling they have met somewhere before.

Meanwhile, the agency has begun investigating the baffling Yokohama serial suicides, in which ability users take their own lives using their own powers. The man suspected of responsibility is Tatsuhiko Shibusawa.

At the same time, Ryunosuke Akutagawa of the Port Mafia is pursuing Shibusawa. Six years earlier, Shibusawa clashed with the organisation during the Dragon Head Conflict, causing numerous deaths and injuries. He is a vicious criminal and a hated enemy.

During the mission, however, a mysterious fog engulfs Akutagawa. In the mist, Port Mafia executive Chuya Nakahara gives him a new order: kill Osamu Dazai, the great sinner who invited Shibusawa into Yokohama.

Dazai has vanished from Atsushi and the others. The sinister Fyodor lurks behind countless incidents, while Shibusawa possesses an ability both beautiful and horrifying. The intentions of these three extraordinary men, gathered at the Skull Fortress, cover Yokohama in deep, fog-filled darkness.

“Come, show me the brilliance of your life force.” Another story is born from their intertwined histories. Now another Dead Apple bears its crimson fruit upon the stage.

Extras follow the production from photography sessions and rehearsals to backstage during performances, candid moments and the process of bringing the work to life. They also include a full-stage view and the pre-opening special originally streamed on Nico Nico Live. A booklet accompanies the release.
