Chihayafuru: Meguri Blu-ray Box

Chihayafuru: Meguri continues the live-action world of Chihayafuru ten years after the films, with an original story developed alongside manga creator Yuki Suetsugu. A new generation of high-school students takes up competitive karuta, inheriting the passion of the players who came before them.

Second-year Umezono High student Meguru treats every spare moment as an investment in her future. School is followed by a part-time job and cram school, with smartphone investing squeezed into the gaps. She belongs to the karuta club only because membership looks good on her school record, has never attended practice and does not even know the rules. Meeting part-time teacher Kanade Oe begins to change that outlook, drawing her into a team pursuing a place at the national tournament.

Ami Toma leads a cast that includes Nanoka Hara, Jun Saito and Taiyu Fujiwara. Mone Kamishiraishi returns as Kanade, with appearances by film-series cast members Suzu Hirose, Shuhei Nomura, Mackenyu, Yuma Yamoto, Yuki Morinaga, Hayato Sano, Mio Yuki and Ryotaro Sakaguchi. Norihiro Koizumi serves as showrunner, Masaru Yokoyama provides the music, and Perfume perform the theme song Megurupu.

The four-disc Blu-ray box contains approximately 500 minutes of drama across three main discs and a fourth disc of extras. Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 stereo audio and Japanese accessibility subtitles accompany the main program. The bonus disc includes making-of footage and interviews with all 16 actors playing students from Umezono, Mizusawa and Hokuo schools. A booklet is included.
