Chihiro Onitsuka Hysteria CD
HYSTERIA/鬼束ちひろ 通常盤
Chihiro Onitsuka’s first original album in three years marks the twentieth anniversary of her debut with a new approach. Recently discovered demo tapes, recorded with her own accompaniment around the time of her debut, preserved many melodies that she had written but never developed into finished songs.
For this album, her present-day self wrote new lyrics for a selection of those melodies. The process differs from her usual habit of creating words and music together: across twenty years, the past and present Onitsuka face each other like mirror images, producing a conceptual anniversary work.
The sound production continues the partnership behind End of the world, the theme for the drama Pornographer: Indigo no Kibun. New yet somehow nostalgic, the album evokes her beginnings, her present and the future ahead.
