In the glittering Shanghai of the Republican era, successful writer Xu Youyi appears to have an enviable life with her wealthy husband, Zhou Heng. That life collapses when she discovers his affair with Zhang Wan, her longtime best friend and trusted manager. Zhang Wan is murdered that same night. Reeling from betrayal and loss, Youyi meets Yan Wei, a photographer whose brusque manner conceals an unexpected kindness.

As the two women draw closer, Youyi discovers that her new companion has a dangerous past: Yan Wei is a former mercenary and an expert sniper. Detective Jiang Bin investigates a string of murders while probing her hidden identity. Around them, a conspiracy involving Youyi’s husband and his lovers begins to emerge. In a world shaped by deception, the bond between the writer and the photographer becomes their means of confronting its threats together.

Zhang Nan plays Xu Youyi, voiced in Japanese by Kana Hanazawa, while Sun Yihan plays Yan Wei, voiced by Shion Wakayama. Liu Zhiyang appears as Zhou Heng with Yuki Hayashi’s Japanese voice, He Fengtian as Jiang Bin with Toshiki Masuda, Fang Anna as Zhang Wan with Asami Seto, and Zhou Dawei as Xie Yifan with Takeo Otsuka.

The four-disc box contains all 12 episodes, with three episodes on each disc, Chinese original audio, a Japanese dub and Japanese subtitles. Its supplementary video features a newly recorded conversation between Zhang Nan and Sun Yihan. A newly photographed pin-up card of the two leads accompanies a special booklet containing a conversation between Kana Hanazawa and Shion Wakayama, handwritten messages from Zhang Nan and Sun Yihan, and additional material.
