The Cute High Earth Defense Club series begins a new chapter with Haikara! The first LOVE! series drew attention when it aired in January 2015, followed by LOVE! LOVE! and HAPPY KISS! In January 2025, the tenth-anniversary film ETERNAL LOVE! continued a franchise that has taken many forms.

The story takes place in the Taisho era, when romance fills the air and compassion still lives in people’s hearts. Unzen, Sukayu, Unohana, Oshamambe and Aso are ordinary, or perhaps not quite ordinary, students at Binan High School. They share life at Kurotama Dormitory and spend their free time lazing around the Earth Defense Club, a club devoted to doing nothing.

One morning, while the five are bathing at the dormitory, something slippery moves through the water. When they finally catch it, it turns out to be Nul, a talking Pallas’s cat. Arriving from the distant future on an important mission, Nul warns them that Earth faces destruction. Yet he insists that he has only come to deliver the warning: whether to fight is a decision the five must make of their own free will. They suspect he is simply avoiding responsibility.

Unzen eagerly chooses to fight, deciding that it is the more fashionable, haikara thing to do. Once all five freely make their choice, Nul uses feline science to transform them into the Haikara Romandan. Meanwhile, the mysterious three-member Bankara Shineitai is working in the shadows, plotting to conquer Earth.

Volume three contains episodes seven to nine, a special booklet and the third part of the Haikara Romandan’s Tokyo Dome City outing, in which the five performers set out in search of all things haikara.
