Dororon Enma-kun Complete Series Blu-ray

Go Nagai’s Dororon Enma-kun returns in an HD-remastered Blu-ray edition containing all 25 episodes of the television series originally broadcast from October 1973 to March 1974. Its early stories draw their unease from dangers lurking close to everyday life, while later episodes build toward more forceful battles and action. Nagai designed almost all of the supernatural adversaries himself, giving the series an array of distinctive characters rather than simply reproducing familiar folklore.

Trouble in the human world turns out to be the work of unruly spirits that have escaped from the underworld. The great King Enma sends his nephew Enma-kun to lead a patrol, accompanied by the knowledgeable Chapeau, the snow-family princess Yukiko-hime and the resourceful Kapaeru. Their predecessor Darakyura has not merely neglected his duties: he has encouraged the offenders and profited from their misdeeds. After dismissing him, Enma-kun and his companions tackle the strange incidents one after another to protect the people caught in their path.

The original voice cast includes Masako Nozawa, Junpei Takiguchi, Sumie Sakai, Kaneta Kimotsuki, Takuzo Kamiyama, Akira Shimada, Takako Kondo, Reiko Katsura, Kunihiko Kitagawa and Hidekatsu Shibata. Kimio Yabuki serves as chief director, with scripts by Masaki Tsuji, Tadaaki Yamazaki, Shunichi Yukimuro and Shozo Uehara, and music by Hiroshi Tsutsui. Fuji Television and Toei produced the series.

This two-disc, dual-layer set presents the series in its 4:3 picture shape with pillarboxing, Japanese monaural audio and no subtitles. The published runtime is approximately 628 minutes. A promotional spot for the final episode is included as a video extra, and a 28-page guide accompanies the discs.
