Dragon Pilot: Hisone and Masotan Official Design Works opens up the anime's production artwork, from character concepts to OTF and mechanical designs. Character sheets, background designs and background paintings appear alongside early image sketches by chief director Shinji Higuchi.
Interviews and comments bring together Higuchi, writer Mari Okada, original character designer Toshinao Aoki and character designer and chief animation director Yoshiyuki Ito. Main mechanical designer Shoji Kawamori and monster concept artist Shigeto Koyama add their perspectives on the production's distinctive designs.
The contributor section also includes concept artist okama, art designer Akihiro Hirasawa, art director Yuji Kaneko, guest mechanical designer Shingo Takeba and design contributor Yutaka Izubuchi. Their different roles give context to the character, mechanical and environmental materials collected throughout the book. Edited by the Post Media Editorial Department and published by Ichijinsha, this Japanese-language production artbook contains 112 pages.
