Encounter - Hirotaka Tanaka Artworks presents the illustrator's precise linework, bold compositions and distinctive colour combinations in his first collection. Girls appear beside immense buildings, factories and dinosaurs, linking everyday scenes with unfamiliar or extraordinary surroundings.
The original-work section includes four illustrations newly created for the book. A separate selection focuses on commercial work, particularly book covers, with examples from The Gymnasium Murder and Jun Ikeido's Soratobu Tire. Tanaka's broader illustration practice also encompasses children's books, CD jackets and poster work, including commissions for J-WAVE.
The volume includes Crepe made wa Owarasenai, a collaboration with Yugo Aosaki, together with production roughs that offer a view of its development. Cover work for authors such as Aosaki, Jiro Akagawa, Ikeido and Yusuke Yamada places the original illustrations alongside the artist's publishing commissions. Published by Tokyo Sogensha, this Japanese-language collection contains 96 full-colour pages.
