Fishmans Movie reached Japanese cinemas on July 9, 2021 and became a long-running success, topping Filmarks’ opening-day satisfaction ranking. Even during the pandemic, fans returned for repeat viewings, bringing a new wave of enthusiasm for Fishmans across Japan.

At the end of the twentieth century in Tokyo, Fishmans pursued music with singular dedication. Though celebrated at home and abroad, their path was anything but smooth: disappointing sales, a change of record company, successive departures and the sudden death of vocalist Shinji Sato. Left alone, leader Kin-ichi Motegi reached out to former members and restarted the band. In spring 2019, twenty years after Sato’s death, they approached the stage with a special resolve.

Band members and artists including Ikuko Harada of Clammbon, Hanaregumi, UA, YO-KING of Magokoro Brothers and Kazufumi Kodama reflect on the group’s journey from its formation and their passionate commitment to music. Rare footage preserved by people close to the band helps tell the story in an unusually expansive music documentary. This standard edition includes the film and film extras.
