From Bureaucrat to Villainess Volume 1 Blu-ray
TV 悪役令嬢転生おじさん Blu-ray Vol.1
A middle-aged man, reincarnation in another world, and an otome-game villainess combine in this warm-hearted comedy. From Bureaucrat to Villainess brings the popular manga recognised in the Manga We Want to See Animated ranking to television animation and Blu-ray.
Created by Michiro Ueyama, known for works including Zoids, the manga runs in Monthly Young King OURs GH. Its prototype attracted more than 140,000 likes on X before serialisation, and the first collected volume was reprinted immediately after release. The long-awaited television adaptation began in January 2025.
Animation is produced by Ajiado, the studio behind the Nintama Rantaro series, Kakushigoto and A Sign of Affection, carefully bringing this unusual world to life. Kazuhiko Inoue, known across generations for Cyborg 009 and Oishinbo, voices Kenzaburo Tondabayashi. M.A.O, whose roles include Fire Force and The Idolmaster Cinderella Girls, plays Grace, the villainess into whom he is reincarnated. A colourful supporting voice cast adds to the lively comedy.
Kenzaburo Tondabayashi, a serious, fifty-two-year-old civil servant, dies in a traffic accident. Or so he thinks. When he awakens, he has somehow been reincarnated inside Magical Academy Love & Beast, the otome game his daughter adores. His new identity is Grace Auvergne, the villainess who stands in the way of heroine Anna Doll’s romance.
Kenzaburo tries to behave like the original Grace and fulfil his role as a villainess. Instead, his experience gives his words to Anna the warmth of a protective parent, while his Elegant Cheat ability automatically transforms his ordinary middle-aged behaviour into graceful conduct. Grace’s reputation soars, and he unintentionally sets off romantic flags with the game’s handsome love interests. What weapon will help him survive this other world? A sword? Magic? No: the middle-aged skills he has developed through working life.
Volume 1 collects episodes one to four. It includes a sleeve newly illustrated by character designer Haruka Matsunae, a special booklet featuring a Kenzaburo Tondabayashi photo collection, and postcards using end-card illustrations by a distinguished group of artists. Extras include an episode-one audio commentary with Kazuhiko Inoue and M.A.O, episode previews, mini anime, and promotional videos and commercials.
