Giant Gorg Blu-ray Box

Giant Gorg, Yoshikazu Yasuhiko's enduring masterpiece, arrives in a Blu-ray box for the first time.

At the time of its broadcast, robot anime was often understood as a genre made to support toys for young children, and Giant Gorg was regarded as an unusual departure. Fans nevertheless praised its exceptional completeness as an enduring classic. A long-awaited DVD release followed in 2005. After it sold out and the licensing agreement ended, the series remained absent from the market for a long time and commanded high auction prices. It was reissued in 2012 and now receives its long-awaited first Blu-ray edition.

For this release, a new master print, a 2K scan and HD remastering deliver enhanced picture quality. The box has newly drawn artwork by Yoshikazu Yasuhiko, and the four-panel digipak disc case features new illustrations by Tsukasa Dokite. The booklet includes newly conducted staff and cast interviews, making this a lavish edition for fans. Thirty-eight years after its broadcast, Giant Gorg returns on Blu-ray for viewers who knew it at the time and for fans of robot anime.

Yasuhiko, whose many works include Mobile Suit Gundam and Giant Gorg and whose roles span animation direction, character design and chief direction, received the Special Award from the Association at the forty-fourth Japan Academy Film Prize ceremony in 2021, the year before this release announcement. His latest directorial work at the time, Mobile Suit Gundam: Cucuruz Doan's Island, released nationwide on June 3, 2022, also became a major success.

Contents: all 26 television episodes. The programme originally aired from April to September 1984 on TV Tokyo and its nationwide network of 22 stations. New master print, 2K scan and HD remaster; illustrated box, four-panel digipak and booklet.
