Gintama: The land of the samurai. The days when this country was called that are long gone. At the end of the Edo period, the rise of the Amanto, visitors from outer space, and the decree banning swords have sent the samurai into decline. Gintoki Sakata, once feared as the White Yaksha for fighting the Amanto to the bitter end as a patriotic rebel, now carries a wooden sword and spends his days casually running the Odd Jobs Gin-chan handyman service in Kabukicho.

News arrives that his former comrade Kotaro Katsura has disappeared and Shinsuke Takasugi is raising an army to overthrow the shogunate. When danger threatens Shinpachi and Kagura as the Odd Jobs team investigates, Gintoki takes up his sword again. Facing his former comrades, whose paths and reasons for fighting have diverged from his own, he fights to protect his soul and the companions he cherishes.

Gintama 2: Rules Are Made to Be Broken: At the end of the shogunate, humans and the extraterrestrial Amanto live together in Edo’s Kabukicho. Gintoki, Shinpachi and Kagura have no work, no money and cannot even pay the rent. One day, the manager of the Smile hostess club asks them to entertain an important official from the shogunate. That official turns out to be the shogun himself, Shigeshige Tokugawa!

At the same time, the Shinsengumi’s fearsome vice commander Hijikata is surrounded by anti-shogunate rebels. He tries to draw his sword, but his body moves on its own, and he finds himself bowing on his knees. A second personality, the Akihabara-style otaku Tosshi, has suddenly emerged. With Tosshi reduced to a coward and an internal dispute erupting in the Shinsengumi, the organisation faces a crisis that threatens its very existence. It grows into a conspiracy involving the shogun and a huge uproar. How will the Odd Jobs team and Gintoki confront this greatest crisis?
