GODZILLA Movies

Godzilla or a scientific weapon? An immense battle of terror and dread begins.

Maritime disasters occur repeatedly in the waters near Japan. Then, on a stormy night, a gigantic creature comes ashore on Odo Island. Named Godzilla after the island’s legend, it lands in Tokyo and turns the city into a sea of fire.

Godzilla began as a replacement project for a cancelled film planned as a co-production with Indonesia. It opened in Japan on November 3, 1954 and became a major hit. Released around the world, including the United States, it established itself as a landmark of special-effects monster cinema.

This remastered edition includes an audio commentary and extensive archival supplements. They explore the film’s overseas version, promotional material, a short-film adaptation, interviews, still images, the Oxygen Destroyer and the Godzilla theme. Unused footage examines the film’s composite effects, while several supplements reproduce material from earlier Blu-ray and box editions.
