Gokusen First Series Blu-ray Box revisits the beginning of Yankumi's classroom adventures, with Yukie Nakama as teacher Kumiko Yamaguchi and Jun Matsumoto among her rebellious students. Her glasses, pigtails and red tracksuit conceal an unusual upbringing in the Oedo yakuza family. Determined to become a teacher on her own terms, she refuses to abandon pupils dismissed as troublemakers, meeting their problems with compassion, courage and a fierce sense of justice.
This collection includes all 12 episodes of the 2002 series and the 2003 special Sayonara 3-nen D-gumi... Yankumi Namida no Sotsugyoshiki. Based on Kozueko Morimoto's manga, the drama also features Shun Oguri, Yuma Ishigaki, Hiroki Narimiya, Misaki Ito and Katsuhisa Namase.
The supplementary programme includes Gokusen THE Guide, cast interviews, a retrospective recorded before the finale and the newly filmed portions of Gokusen Returns. Further extras bring together cast confessions, interviews with Nakama, Matsumoto, Ikki Sawamura and Ken Utsui, Gokusen Shopping, ending-title footage and promotional spots. A graduation-album-style photo booklet completes the physical contents.
Across five region-free Blu-ray discs, the set provides approximately 666 minutes of drama and 185 minutes of supplementary material. The original 4:3 picture is presented with side panels in 1080i, with Japanese Linear PCM 2.0 stereo audio and Japanese subtitles on the main programme.
