Childhood’s End is the story of a man who has yet to discover his destiny. In a far future after untold time has passed, humanity survives deep beneath the earth. Earthquakes and cave-ins occasionally strike the villages; people have shrunk into narrow ways of thinking and lived almost holding their breath for hundreds of years. Two men live in one such settlement, Jiha Village: shy boy Simon and Kamina, who never doubts that a surface world exists. Their destinies begin to move when the village ceiling collapses.

Falling with the ceiling are a gigantic face-bodied mecha called a Gunmen and Yoko, a girl carrying a superconducting rifle. Sunlight pours from the sky. “The surface really does exist!” With Kamina's dream vindicated, the pair welcome Yoko and ride Lagann, the mecha Simon dug up, out onto the distant surface!

But that dreamed-of surface is ruled by the Spiral King and his Beastmen, who pilot Gunmen. Kamina and Simon challenge this despairing world. As they break one accepted rule after another, more people begin sympathizing with them. Then an overwhelming wall of power blocks their way. Sensing defeat, Kamina chooses to combine Gurren and Lagann! The seemingly impossible combination calls forth a miracle and a new power, Gurren Lagann. It signals a counterattack against the Spiral King and the beginning of further battles. The man has yet to discover his destiny...

The Lights in the Sky Are Stars: on the day they punched a hole in the heavens, they saw the path to tomorrow. This is the story of a man who keeps fighting destiny. Overcoming Kamina's death, Team Dai-Gurren defeats the Spiral King's Four Supreme Generals and closes on the capital Teppelin. Amid fierce fighting with the Beastmen army, Simon confronts Lordgenome and barely wins their savage duel.

Seven years after the capture of Teppelin, humanity has reclaimed the surface, rapidly built civilization and enjoyed prosperity. Peace seems endless. But when its reach extends into space, an unknown enemy appears. Humanity tries to resist and is helplessly crushed by overwhelming strength. When everyone is caught in absolute despair, they rise once more. The final battle of Simon and Team Dai-Gurren is about to begin...
