Hagane no Tane - An Illustrated Guide to Appreciating Japanese Swords
はがねのたね 刀鍛冶から見た初心者にもわかりやすい名刀鑑賞の手引き
Hagane no Tane approaches Japanese swords through the eyes of practicing swordsmith Yoshimitsu Mizuki. Based on his Token Gaho series, the book combines hand-drawn studies with explanations of what to notice in a blade, supported by photographs absent from the magazine version.
Its 29 articles include newly drawn material and comparative studies as well as individual appreciations. Yamanbagiri Kunihiro is considered alongside the older blade it reproduces, while Higekiri and Hizamaru receive both separate coverage and a paired examination of their differences.
Two new illustrated lessons explain Japanese sword fundamentals and guide beginners through appreciating blades in a museum, extending the discussion beyond the particular swords reproduced here. Published by Hobby Japan, this Japanese-language guide contains 116 pages.
