Healer Girl Blu-ray Box Part 1 — Special Limited Edition
The musical healing animation about high-school girls finally raises its curtain! I believe in the healing power of song.
This wholly original television animation pairs director Yasuhiro Irie, known for Scorching Ping Pong Girls and CODE:BREAKER, with Studio 3Hz, known for Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online and Princess Principal. Centred on the fictional profession of healers, who soothe people by singing, it is a fresh musical animation starring charming high-school girls.
Story Healing is a third branch of medicine: vocal medicine that treats illness and injury through song. People who perform medical treatment by singing are called healers. Three apprentice healers work at Karasuma Vocal Treatment Clinic: Kana Fujii, an energetic mood-maker; Reimi Itsushiro, a young lady with a somewhat assertive personality; and Hibiki Morishima, a gentle but dependable elder-sister figure. All three are first-year high-school students who train at the clinic after class, aiming to become fully fledged healers. Sonia Yanagi, a returnee with a Class C healer qualification, joins them. Today, too, the girls sing healing songs as they work towards their dreams!
Six episodes included Song 1: I'm Kana Fujii, an Apprentice Healer! First-year students Kana, Reimi and Hibiki are apprentice healers. After school, they devote themselves to training at Karasuma Vocal Treatment Clinic. One night, while their mentor Ria is away at an academic conference, an elderly patient's condition suddenly deteriorates. Apprentices are forbidden from providing treatment, but Kana begins singing to reassure the woman.
Song 2: May I Take a Photo? Or a Video? Sonia, a talented Class C healer, views Ria, an authority in the vocal medical community, as her rival. When she finds a pregnant woman suffering labour pains in a park, she begins emergency treatment with Kana assisting. Despite their desperate efforts, the woman's condition does not improve. Ria appears before the girls as they find themselves cornered.
Song 3: Cleaning, Run, Run, Run After a study retreat and prayers for success, the girls finally face their first hurdle as healers: the provisional licensing examination. Once the exam is over, however, they become completely drained. Seeing this, Ria enters them in a neighbourhood sports festival for a change of pace. Moving their bodies to the fullest in a contest with Sonia restores their spirits. Afterwards, Ria finally tells them whether they passed the provisional examination.
Song 4: A Step, Horror and Our First Job! Having passed their provisional examination, the girls immediately receive a job supporting a surgeon through song. After intense practice, the day of the operation arrives. The procedure appears to be progressing smoothly, but a new lesion is found and an uneasy atmosphere settles over the operating theatre. Determined to help the surgery succeed, they begin singing, led by Kana, whose voice still has strength left.
Song 5: The Sky Is Blue and the Mountains Green; A River Battle and Galactic Station The staff of Karasuma Vocal Treatment Clinic visit Hibiki's family home under the pretext of employee training. The girls go to play in the river while Ria and Shoko relax over drinks. During a conversation about what led her to become a healer, Kana learns that the healer who helped her as a child was Ria. Hibiki also shares her past as they explore her hometown, deepening the three girls' friendship.
Song 6: Become My Servant; Sweet Dreams with Russian Cuisine The girls come to help at Honosaka Treatment Clinic. Although Sonia is usually haughty, her surprisingly earnest approach to work impresses all three. Meanwhile, Sonia has manoeuvred Kana into becoming a member of the cultural-festival organising committee. Between clinic work, committee duties and involvement with the Russian Cuisine Research Club, her days become extremely busy. When the cultural festival finally arrives, it feels as though trouble may be brewing.
