ILLUSTRATION 2025 brings together 150 artists working across Japanese pop and online culture, with an entirely different contributor selection from the 2024 volume. This edition places particular emphasis on each artist's creative roots and the individual expression that grows from them.
Cover artist Nanaco Yashiro draws on nostalgia and imagined dream worlds in a practice that often uses acrylic gouache to depict plants, animals and women. Tomoyuki Arima handles the book design, and the two discuss the development of this volume's cover in a dedicated conversation.
The closing features include an interview with animation creator Komugiko2000, whose work includes music videos for ZUTOMAYO, and a discussion of the thinking behind the series' new slogan and emblem. Edited by Koji Hiraizumi and published by Shoeisha, this Japanese-language collection contains 320 pages.
