Joe Hisaishi's second Deutsche Grammophon album focuses on the refined technique and sensibility of his work as a classical composer and conductor. He conducts the Vienna Symphony in the world-premiere recording of Symphony No. 2, first performed in Kyoto in 2021, at Vienna's Musikverein.
Viola Saga also receives its first recording, featuring acclaimed viola soloist Antoine Tamestit. The album's lead work had drawn praise since its Japanese premiere in 2022. Symphony No. 2 was recorded at the Musikverein in March 2023, and Viola Saga at the Vienna Konzerthaus in September 2023.
