Ju-on and Ju-on 2: V-Cinema Edition 4K UHD + Blu-ray

Takashi Shimizu’s original Ju-on and Ju-on 2 return in a two-film collection of the 2000 V-Cinema productions. Supervised by Shimizu, the restoration uses RS+ processing to upscale the original standard-definition D2 materials to 4K. The films retain their 4:3 framing, with both a new 5.1-channel mix and the original stereo sound. This set presents both films on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray and Blu-ray.

In Ju-on, teacher Kobayashi visits the home of Toshio Saeki, a pupil who has stopped attending school. Only Toshio is there. His mother Kayako, once Kobayashi’s university classmate, has left a diary revealing an obsessive attachment to him. As he waits for the parents to return, a telephone call deepens the unease. Later, the Murakami family occupies the same house. When Kanna leaves her cousin and tutor Yuki alone, Yuki begins to sense a presence that should not be there.

Ju-on 2 follows estate agent Tatsuya Suzuki, who asks his psychically sensitive sister Kyoko to inspect the troubled property. Despite her alarm, the Kitada couple moves in. As Kyoko traces the house’s history, Tatsuya’s son Nobuyuki begins to change. The apartment where father and son now live once belonged to Kobayashi and his pregnant wife.

The films run 147 minutes in total. Japanese audio is available in Linear PCM 5.1 and Linear PCM stereo, with no subtitles. A Dolby Digital stereo commentary brings together directors Takashi Shimizu and Keisuke Toyoshima. Blu-ray video extras include the twenty-fifth-anniversary Toshio birthday stage greeting, the original V-Cinema trailers and trailers for the 4K presentations.
