Kabuki Touken Ranbu: Azuma Kagami Yuki no Midare Blu-ray

The sword warriors of Touken Ranbu enter the turbulent world of the Kamakura shogunate in Azuma Kagami Yuki no Midare, the second kabuki adaptation of Touken Ranbu ONLINE. Drawing on the historical chronicle Azuma Kagami, the drama approaches the snowy day on which the third shogun, Minamoto no Sanetomo, was assassinated at Tsurugaoka Hachimangu. Sanetomo and his wife face a court entangled in political ambitions and personal loyalties. His mother, Hojo Masako, struggles with her responsibilities as both parent and ruler, while Kugyo, his guardian Miura Yoshimura and the scheming Minamoto no Nakaakira approach the same fateful day. Meanwhile, the resentment of those killed in war takes supernatural form. The sword warriors must protect history while confronting the conflicting wishes of the people caught within it.

Mikazuki Munechika, Higekiri, Hizamaru, Dodanuki Masakuni and Kogarasumaru are joined by Onimaru Kunitsuna, Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki and Kashu Kiyomitsu. The programme also includes the celebratory concluding dance Mai Kisou Hana no Tsuwamono. Written by Ryo Matsuoka and directed by Kikunojo Onoe and Matsuya Onoe, the production toured Tokyo, Fukuoka and Kyoto in summer 2025.

Matsuya Onoe plays Mikazuki Munechika and Rasetsu Mijin; Kasho Nakamura plays Mutsunokami Yoshiyuki and Minamoto no Sanetomo; Takanosuke Nakamura plays Dodanuki Masakuni and Kugyo; and Kangyoku Nakamura plays Higekiri. Sakon Onoe appears as Kashu Kiyomitsu and Sanetomo's wife, while Seishiro Sawamura plays the otherworldly old man and Miura Yoshimura. Kichitaro Kamimura plays Hizamaru, Tsutanosuke Ichikawa the otherworldly old woman and Minamoto no Nakaakira, and Yukinojo Kawai both Kogarasumaru and Hojo Masako. Keizo Otani plays Oe Nyudo and Shido Nakamura plays Onimaru Kunitsuna.

The two-disc edition contains the approximately 203-minute main performance and approximately 343 minutes of extras. These include a full-stage view of the July 27, 2025 matinee closing performance at Shinbashi Enbujo, specially edited upper and lower instalments of Kabuki Yawa originally presented on July 20 and July 23, curtain calls from the opening day, closing day and final tour performance, and nine post-performance announcements. Eight original cards and a sleeve case accompany the discs. Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio stereo is provided for both the original performance and a separate explanatory commentary; there are no subtitles.
