Kakushigoto Blu-ray

Kakushigoto Blu-ray explores the uncertain boundary between an act of protection and a lie that cannot remain hidden. In Mitsukaze Sekine's second feature, adapted from Koji Kitaguni's novel Uso, Anne plays Chisako, a picture-book author who returns reluctantly to the countryside to care for her estranged father after he develops dementia.

Living with a father who increasingly seems like a stranger leaves Chisako isolated. When she helps a boy who has lost his memory in an accident, she discovers signs of abuse on his body. To keep him safe, she tells him that she is his mother. What begins as a deception gradually becomes a bond that feels like a real family, until the boy's father appears and the secrets each person carries begin to emerge.

Sekine brings the social realities of abuse and caregiving into an intimate mystery about maternal love. Anne gives Chisako's determination its emotional centre, while Eiji Okuda portrays her father Kozo as dementia erodes his memories, even of his daughter. Shoma Nakasu plays the boy with a mixture of openness, intelligence and concealed pain; the supporting cast includes Aimi Satsukawa and Masanobu Ando.

The disc includes making-of footage, recorded cast appearances from the completed-film presentation and theatrical opening, and theatrical trailers. These supplements accompany the approximately 128-minute feature.
