Kei Sugawara releases Kujaku, the ending theme for the second cour of Daemons of the Shadow Realm. Since 2020, Sugawara has steadily released original songs through YouTube and streaming services. Spotify selected the artist for RADAR: Early Noise 2022, recognising promising next-generation talent.

Further attention followed a collaboration with Tani Yuuki for MAISONdes, a singing role in the film A Few Moments of Cheers, and a surprise appearance at PEOPLE 1's Ariake Arena concert at the end of 2024. Sugawara's first solo live shows in 2025 sold out immediately, including the additional performance, followed by an appearance at COUNTDOWN JAPAN 25/26. The Tokyo, Nagoya and Osaka hall tour in May 2026 also sold out in full. Kujaku marks the artist's second single.
