Kimi no Wasurekata: How to Forget You Blu-ray

Ryota Bando takes his first solo film lead in Kimi no Wasurekata, a drama about grief, love and the difficult process of rebuilding a life after loss. Subaru Morishita is preparing to marry Miki, his partner of three years, when she dies in a traffic accident. Unable to put his pain into words, he drifts through days of shock until his mother Yoko encourages him to return to his hometown in Gifu.

Yoko understands the persistence of loss: she too lost her husband in an accident and still carries the wound. Subaru believes his grief cannot change, but an unusual experience gradually allows him to confront Miki’s death. Drawing on the idea of grief care, the film follows the different ways people learn to live alongside sorrow, and the help they can offer one another without pretending that bereavement simply disappears.

Nanase Nishino plays Miki and Kaho Minami plays Yoko. The cast also features Wan Marui, Hisato Kokubo, Yusaku Mori, Naomi Akimoto, Kanji Tsuda, Yoshinori Okada and a guest appearance by Morio Kazama. Yu Sakudo directs and writes the screenplay, with Motoharu Ito as co-writer, drawing on Shinya Ichijo’s book For Those Who Have Lost a Loved One. Mamiko Hirai and Seigen Tokuzawa compose the music, and Miu Sakamoto sings the ending song.

The dual-layer Blu-ray contains the 107-minute feature and 102 minutes of supplements, including making-of footage, stage-greeting events and the trailer. The film is presented in 1080i with Japanese DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 surround and English subtitles for the main feature. Five photographic prints are included.
