Ladies on Top Blu-ray Box

She is taking the lead in love. Starring Hayato Takao and Kohaku Shida, this bright, playful romantic comedy asks what a “normal relationship” really means—and turns familiar gender roles around.

The popular manga, widely discussed on social media and with more than 600,000 copies in circulation, becomes a television drama. A pat on the head or an overly sweet line makes Mizuki uncomfortable rather than making her heart flutter. Unable to enjoy what she thinks an ordinary girl should want, she has never managed to make a relationship last. Meeting an elite trading-company employee awakens feelings they have both kept hidden in a powerful, charming comedy that challenges gender expectations.

Hayato Takao plays Shinomiya, a kind, unpretentious 28-year-old employee of a leading trading company. His acting work includes the 2026 Tokyo MX drama Yukari-kun wa Gap ga Zurui, the 2025 BATTLE KING!! Map of The Mind films and the 2026 film Erika. He also performs as a rapper and dancer in ONE N’ONLY, whose TikTok following had passed 5.6 million—the largest among Japanese male music artists in the programme’s introduction.

Kohaku Shida plays Mizuki, a 24-year-old office worker with a neat, sweet appearance and straight, medium-length hair. Shida made her acting debut in the 2022 stage production Rokubanme no Sayoko, then appeared in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers, Nande Watashi ga Kamisekkyou and Propaganda Game. She received the actor-category IT GIRL award at NYLON’S NEXT 2026 AWARDS.

Mizuki Kajitani takes care over her appearance and has some experience of dating, but she dislikes men taking the initiative or treating her with exaggerated sweetness. By the age of 24, none of her relationships has lasted. Hoping to find the happiness she associates with being an ordinary girl, she begins dating the accomplished Takayuki Shinomiya.

Their first night together takes an unexpected turn. As they try to become intimate, Shinomiya seems uneasy. He too finds it difficult to take the lead and has not overcome his insecurities and trauma around sex. Watching him blush and apologise, Mizuki feels her heart race for the first time. She realises that she has always questioned why women must be passive—and that she wants to lead. Faced with Mizuki’s initiative, Shinomiya also begins to recognise feelings he has long concealed.

The box contains all eight episodes, an outer sleeve case and booklet. Extras include the creditless opening, behind-the-scenes footage and a full-frame version of the special creditless ending shown only in episode one. That version removes the original framing so Shinomiya and Mizuki’s images can be seen across the full screen.
