Linda Linda Linda 4K Digitally Remastered Blu-ray

With just three days before their school-festival performance, four high-school girls abruptly form a band to play songs by the Blue Hearts. Their singer is a Korean exchange student, and their preparations are full of detours, awkward encounters and determined practice. Linda Linda Linda captures the warmth of passing time and the friendships that take shape around a shared, seemingly impossible deadline.

Bae Doona sings the Blue Hearts songs with an unpolished directness, while Aki Maeda and Yu Kashii take on the drums and guitar. Professional musician Shiori Sekine of Base Ball Bear makes her acting debut alongside them. Nobuhiro Yamashita directed the film at 28, with music by James Iha and a screenplay co-written with Kosuke Mukai and Wakako Miyashita. Its influence has continued beyond Japan, including inspiring the American band's name The Linda Lindas.

The 4K digital restoration preserves the texture of the original 35 mm photography while bringing out finer detail. This release uses a 2K downconversion of that master for Blu-ray, rather than a UHD disc; occasional image irregularities originate in the original filming materials.

The 114-minute feature has Japanese Linear PCM stereo and DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 sound, with no subtitles. Extras include the original making-of film, stage greetings held on the eve of the restored release, a commemorative talk event, a short film from the Korean publicity tour and the theatrical trailer. A resized 24-page reproduction of the 2005 press booklet includes behind-the-scenes photographs and production notes.
