How did a boy become Lupin the Third? Monkey Punch's popular manga began serialization in 1967. Even the great thief of the century, who later traveled the world in many different media, once had a still-inexperienced childhood. LUPIN ZERO finally reveals his veiled beginnings. Set in the 1960s, the period when the original manga began, it follows young Lupin, still a nobody, through Japan's era of rapid economic growth!
Thrilling clashes between a boy and villains, ties to his father Lupin II and grandfather Lupin I, and his first meeting with future partner Jigen: inspired by the original manga's Young Lupin stories, this original tale feels both nostalgic and new. Telecom Animation Film, the studio behind many Lupin the Third productions, brings a retro, distinctive world back to life.
Popular young voice actors include Tasuku Hatanaka as Lupin, Shunsuke Takeuchi as Jigen and Saori Hayami as Yoko, the heroine Lupin admires. Veteran actors Yoshito Yasuhara as Lupin I and Toshio Furukawa as Lupin II join them in a performance spanning generations. The music is by Yoshihide Otomo of Amachan and Inu-Oh, including arrangements of pieces by Takeo Yamashita, composer for Lupin the Third Part 1. Singer-songwriter Tavito Nanao, who continues to captivate music fans, performs the ending theme. Listen to the world these accomplished creators color through sound.
A boy climbs the steps toward becoming an outlaw. What does he think, and what first step does he take? This is the unknown beginning of the great thief everyone knows.
Episodes 1–6 are included. Extras comprise teasers, trailers and textless opening and ending videos. Episode 4 commentary brings together Tasuku Hatanaka, Shunsuke Takeuchi and Daisuke Sako, with stories they can now discuss after the entire series has streamed—a must-listen for fans, overflowing with love for Lupin. A booklet is enclosed in a three-sided box newly illustrated by character designer Asami Taguchi. Toa Yukinari voices Shinobu alongside the cast already introduced.
The two region-free Blu-rays contain approximately 146 minutes of main animation in 1080p with Japanese Linear PCM stereo audio and no subtitles.
