Madoka, Age 26: A Medical Intern follows a new doctor's first two years at Seio General Hospital, where changing working practices collide with the demands of patient care. Kyoko Yoshine plays Madoka Wakatsuki, a capable student who entered medical school with encouragement from those around her but now finds that academic success has not prepared her for every challenge of hospital life. Her easygoing belief that things will work out is tested by fellow interns who already have clear ambitions.

Soon after arriving, Madoka witnesses a code-blue emergency. A mysterious man draws her close enough to see the experienced doctors' swift response, leaving her impressed and eager to learn. Yet the hospital's protected nine-to-five training environment feels frustratingly removed from that urgency. Senior doctors must balance staff shortages with the patience needed to teach inexperienced recruits.

Madoka and her fellow interns rotate through different departments, beginning with surgery under a demanding supervisor played by Nobuyuki Suzuki. Everyday difficulties pile up: inserting an IV proves harder than expected, the operating theatre brings uncomfortable surprises, and she is even mistaken for a nurse. When a patient dismisses back pain as a minor problem, Madoka's uncertainty about what to do becomes the start of a more serious situation.

Hikaru Takahashi, Ryusei Onishi, Kaito Yoshimura and Sakurako Konishi play the other interns, with Ryuta Sato, Tae Kimura and Eiji Okuda among the experienced hospital staff. Adapted from Midori Mizutani's medical memoir manga, the drama combines professional growth with the personal choices facing its young doctors. Gen Hoshino's theme song is 'Eureka'.

The four-Blu-ray set contains all ten episodes, running 466 minutes, plus 147 minutes of recorded extras.
