Make a Girl Standard Edition Blu-ray

Make a Girl is the first theatrical animated feature from Gensho Yasuda, whose independent 3D shorts, music videos and commissioned animation developed into an original, entirely 3DCG science-fiction romance. Set a little way into the future, the film follows a young inventor who can build artificial intelligence but struggles to understand another person's heart.

Akira Mizutamari has successfully developed and commercialised Salt, a robot designed to help people with everyday life. His subsequent inventions keep failing, however, and he finds himself stuck. When a friend says that getting a girlfriend can give him a boost, Akira takes the advice literally and creates an artificial girlfriend, No.Zero. As she attends school and begins working at a family restaurant, her experience of the world grows beyond the feelings programmed into her. She begins to question whether her heart is real or manufactured, while Akira remains unable to make the breakthrough he expected. What develops between a boy unaccustomed to emotional connection and a girl discovering love becomes increasingly uncertain.

Atsumi Tanezaki voices No.Zero, with Shun Horie as Akira. Toshiki Masuda plays Kunihito Obayashi, the classmate whose advice starts Akira on his unusual project; Sora Amamiya plays Akane Sachimura, who remains concerned for him despite his preoccupation with research. Kana Hanazawa voices Eri Uminaka, an older-sister figure who lives in the same apartment building and often visits his laboratory. Yoji Ueda plays Shoichi Takamine, and Minami Hinata voices Akira as a child.

Yasuda created the original story, screenplay, direction, storyboards and CG direction. The production features sound direction by Yuichi Imaizumi, sound effects by Rei Ueno, sound production by Sonilude and music by Kenichiro Suehiro. Yasuda Gensho Studio by Xenotoon produced the animation, and Eve performs the theme song "Hanaboshi."

The standard Blu-ray contains the approximately 92-minute film in Japanese Linear PCM 5.1, an audio commentary with Atsumi Tanezaki, Shun Horie and Gensho Yasuda, and a promotional-video collection.
