Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms Official Design Works

Behind Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms lies a world built through character sketches, prop drawings and carefully developed environments. This official design collection brings those materials together, beginning with Akihiko Yoshida's original character concepts. Known for his work on Final Fantasy and Granblue Fantasy, Yoshida supplied the starting point for the film's distinctive cast.

Rough sketches and design sheets by character designer and chief animation director Yuriko Ishii reveal another stage of that development. Art-setting drawings by background and concept designer Tomoaki Okada extend the collection beyond the characters to the places and objects that surround them.

The artwork belongs to Mari Okada's directorial debut, a story shaped by encounters, separation and unequal lifetimes. After an attack scatters her long-lived people, Maquia finds an orphaned baby and raises him as Ariel. He grows older while her appearance remains unchanged, giving their bond a changing meaning as the years pass. The collection offers a closer view of the designs behind that story.
