Matori and the Mad Dog Blu-ray Box

Daigo Nishihata of Naniwa Danshi takes his first solo leading role in a television drama series. Matori and the Mad Dog brings together men whose desires and troubled histories are bound to the world of narcotics, in a wild action drama that exposes the darkness of the drug trade.

A drug-related killing at a Roppongi club leaves two people dead: a customer suffering a cocaine overdose stabs a waiter before dying himself. The man who sold him the drugs is Kyonosuke Umezawa, a once-successful child actor whose downward spiral has led him to dealing. Narcotics investigator Toru Kurosaki pursues the case with an extraordinary obsession with drugs.

As Umezawa and his associates prepare drug packets in an apartment, the narcotics officers raid the premises. He narrowly escapes, only to be caught by the perceptive Kurosaki. Threatened with arrest unless he becomes Kurosaki’s informant, Umezawa is forced to agree.

Then Akito Katsuragi, an assistant inspector in the Metropolitan Police Department’s Drugs and Firearms Division, arrests him and orders him to spy for the police as well. Trapped in the hellish role of double agent for two rival authorities, Umezawa must decide whom he can trust when everything is at stake. Madness and desire become ever more deeply and ominously entangled.

The first Blu-ray contains episodes one through five, and the second contains episodes six through nine. A separate DVD includes behind-the-scenes footage, scenes from the start and completion of filming, and the advance screening and talk event. A booklet accompanies the collection.
