Mazinger Z Anime

Celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Mazinger Z with this affordable Blu-ray box. The television anime captured the hearts of children across Japan when it aired in the 1970s, achieving an extraordinary peak rating of 30.4 percent. Bandai's Jumbo Machinder and Chogokin toys were major hits as well. Mazinger Z established giant-robot anime as a genre and marked the first step toward an anime boom that replaced the transformation-hero craze. The beautiful negative-scan HD remaster is also a must-see.

On the Aegean island of Bardos, the evil genius scientist Dr. Hell discovers giant robots left behind by the ancient Mycenaeans and sets his sights on world conquest. To kill Dr. Juzo Kabuto, who knows his secret, he sends Baron Ashura and the Iron Mask Corps to Japan. But Kabuto has completed Mazinger Z, an astonishing super robot armored in the strongest metal, Super Alloy Z, and equipped with photon-powered weapons.

Kabuto's grandson Koji, a high-school student, pilots the Hover Pilder that forms the robot's cockpit and takes up his grandfather's mission. Staying at the Photon Power Laboratory, led by Kabuto's former student Professor Gennosuke Yumi, Koji resolves to fight Dr. Hell's mechanical beasts alongside Aphrodite A, piloted by the professor's daughter Sayaka.

The third and final box contains episodes sixty-two through ninety-two on five dual-layer Blu-rays, continuing the series' disc numbering. Disc eleven contains episodes sixty-two through sixty-eight; disc twelve contains sixty-nine through seventy-four; disc thirteen contains seventy-five through eighty; disc fourteen contains eighty-one through eighty-six; and disc fifteen contains eighty-seven through ninety-two. The main program runs 777 minutes. The jacket features artwork newly drawn by Kazuhiro Ochi.

Disc fifteen also contains the early creditless opening, both the early and later creditless endings, and Memorial Roundtable: Mazinger Z and Dynamic Pro, taken from the 1998 release Mazinger Z Memorial Vol.1.

The cast features Hiroya Ishimaru as Koji Kabuto, Saiko Egawa as Sayaka Yumi, Kazuko Sawada as Shiro Kabuto, Joji Yanami as Professor Yumi, Hiroshi Otake as Boss, Isamu Tanonaka as Mucha, Kosei Tomita as Dr. Hell, Hidekatsu Shibata and Haruko Kitahama as Baron Ashura, and Koji Yada as the narrator. The series originally aired from December 1972 through September 1974.
