Hayato Isurugi is training to become a spirit practitioner, mastering the mysterious power that exists in people and nature. Life at Jinwa Academy is peaceful: he makes talismans for pocket money, chats with friends and plans a thank-you gift for his sister. An unexpected attack shatters that happiness, leaving him gravely wounded as he shields his companions.
At the edge of death, Hayato meets Shion, a Magatsu spirit sealed by his ancestors and one of thirteen generals who terrorised the capital a thousand years ago. She offers him power in exchange for her freedom. Their pact begins a spirited school adventure of supernatural battles, friendship and bonds that become family.
