Nyaight of the Living Cat Blu-ray Box + CD

Run! Here come the adorable cats. Nyaight of the Living Cat combines the world of zombie movies with irresistible feline charm: a worldwide “nyandemic” turns anyone who touches a cat into a cat. Authentic survival action and utterly cute animals come together in a surprising entertainment spectacle, with the pleasures of animal stories, comedy and homages to famous films.

A leading team of Japanese creators brings the premise to life. Chief director Takashi Miike, the filmmaker behind Crows ZERO and Lesson of the Evil, lends his reputation as a master of cinematic violence to the project. OLM, known for Pokémon and Summer Time Rendering, handles production, with director Tomohiro Kamiya of MIX: Meisei Story — Our Second Summer, Beyond the Sky and series writer Shingo Irie of Orb: On the Movements of the Earth. The creative team shares a love of cats.

The animal-loving cast brings together Masaaki Mizunaka of Tokyo Revengers, Reina Ueda of Demon Slayer, Reiji Kawashima of To Your Eternity, Yu Serizawa of TONIKAWA, Subaru Kimura of Jujutsu Kaisen, Yoshiki Nakajima of The Idolmaster SideM, Ryota Takeuchi of Haikyu!! and Hiroki Yasumoto of Bleach. Many are devoted cat owners, and that affection enriches their convincing performances.

From feline enthusiasts to families, the series offers familiar cat behaviour, trivia and entertaining cinematic references to discover. No cats are depicted being injured. Its music adds another dimension: The Yellow Monkey perform the opening theme CAT CITY, and WANIMA provide the ending theme Matatabi. Composer Koji Endo’s main theme features guitarist Marty Friedman and vocalist Heidi Shepherd of Butcher Babies, bringing an impressive rock collaboration to the action.

In the year 20XX, cats have taken over the world. A virus that transforms humans into cats on contact has unleashed a global nyandemic. As people are nuzzled by cats, more and more of them become cats themselves. Can humanity resist the urge to touch these adorable animals and survive in a world filled with them? Everything is becoming a cat in this startling survival “catmedy.”

The complete twelve-episode release includes a three-sided case with new anime artwork, a background-music soundtrack CD and a 24-page booklet. Episode 4 and episode 12 feature audio commentaries with Masaaki Mizunaka, Reina Ueda, Reiji Kawashima and Yu Serizawa. Creditless opening and ending sequences and a promotional-video collection round out the set.
