Odin: Photon Sailer Starlight Blu-ray Archive Set

The mystery and romance of Norse mythology return across time and space. Forty years after its theatrical debut, this feature-length science-fiction anime from the creators of Space Battleship Yamato makes its Blu-ray debut through KINEMATICS. Yoshinobu Nishizaki and the production team developed the new cosmic adventure after a two-and-a-half-year interval. Music brings together Yamato composers Hiroshi Miyagawa and Kentaro Haneda, while LOUDNESS—already making its mark internationally—provides the theme music and song.

Following the 2003 DVD release, the film remained out of print for many years and became a sought-after title. This edition presents an HD remaster prepared from the surviving video master. Its return accompanies renewed interest in Space Battleship Yamato, including the remake project led by Hideaki Anno.

In 2099, the advanced photon-sailing ship Starlight sets out on a test voyage with many young trainees aboard. Drawing propulsion from laser light, gravity control and newly developed photon technology, it travels through space toward Jupiter. Ordered to rescue the Jupiter transport Alford, stranded in the asteroid belt, the crew recovers a girl from an escape pod who has lost her memory. An unidentified enemy immediately launches an attack, threatening to destroy them.

The film is accompanied by the making-of documentary Birth of Starlight: From the Great Ocean to the Vast Universe on DVD, together with a special 16-page full-colour booklet.
