TROYCA, Ei Aoki and Takako Shimura reunite with the staff of Aldnoah.Zero for an original television anime about F 4. Formula 4 is the fourth racing category below Formula 1. Overtake! depicts the complex human drama of young drivers pushing one another to improve in the demanding world of racing.

Thorough research informs powerful racing sequences, while high-quality animation conveys the young drivers' friendship, their intersecting feelings and the conflicts of the adults watching over them. A must-see for animation and motorsport fans alike, the series began broadcasting in October 2023.

Each volume was advertised with lavish first-production extras: an outer case newly illustrated by character designer Masako Matsumoto, a digipak newly illustrated by original character designer Takako Shimura and a special booklet containing design materials. Regular bonus footage offers a look at the detailed research behind the series, along with special appearances by the cast. Volumes 1 and 3 were advertised with storyboard collections by director Ei Aoki; Volume 3 also has a mini anime continuing the story after the main series. These other volumes are sold separately.

Story Formula 4 is an entry category for formula-car racing, whose summit is Formula 1. It has sent talented young drivers into higher categories, and since the series began it has served as a gateway for young motorsport competitors, comparable to Japan's Koshien high-school baseball tournament.

One man steps into that circuit: Koya Madoka. He works as a photographer but is currently in a slump for a particular reason. Visiting Fuji Speedway on assignment, he witnesses the driving of high-school F 4 racer Haruka Asahina. Haruka's almost stubborn dedication rekindles a thrill Koya has not felt for a long time.

That encounter leads Koya to decide to support Haruka and help him achieve his dream alongside the small Komaki Motors team. Before long, the lives of Haruka and Koya, entirely different in age and personality, begin to intertwine.
