Persia, the Magic Fairy 40th Anniversary Limited Edition Blu-ray Box

The second series in Pierrot's magical-girl collection comes to Blu-ray in this 40th-anniversary limited edition. Seven discs contain all 48 television episodes from 1984-1985 and the Kaiten Mokuba OVA, with a film-remastered television presentation, HD-remastered supplements, a special booklet and a wrapped box and inner jacket illustrated by character designer Yoshiyuki Kishi.

Eleven-year-old Persia Hayami has grown up in Africa. On her flight back to Japan, the plane strays into Lovely Dream, a fairy kingdom in need of love's energy. Entrusted with a magical baton, Persia gains the ability to transform into adult women with different professions. Her energy and instinct to help send her into one encounter after another as she tries to save the kingdom, learning through her successes and mistakes.

The opening twelve episodes follow Persia through 'Lost in the Land of Dreams,' 'The Lion Who Became a Cat,' 'Welcome, Fugitive,' 'A Kiss Is the ABC of Love,' 'The Unbeatable Champion,' 'Pearl-Shell Romance,' 'The Runaway Idol,' 'Trouble! Gaku Becomes a Girl,' 'First-Love Kitty,' 'Computer Love Fortunes,' 'Open the Door to Dreams' and 'The Sextuplets' Grand Parade.'

Episodes 13-24 continue with 'The Fiery Neighborhood Runner,' 'Memories in Sepia,' 'Motocross Showdown,' 'The Toy-Powered Mansion,' 'Dangerous House-Sitting,' 'Stop Fighting!,' 'Two Persias?,' 'I Cannot Use Magic!,' 'Gaku and Riki Frozen Solid,' 'Trouble at the Harbor Festival,' 'The Escaped Snow Fairy' and 'The Unfinished Sweater.'

Episodes 25-36 bring 'Santa at Eight,' 'The Midwinter Lion Festival,' 'Transform, and Transform Again!,' 'The Vampire Smells of Roses,' 'I Hate Parents' Visiting Day!,' 'Snow White in the Mysterious Forest,' 'The Broken Baton,' 'A Cold Valentine's Day,' 'Scoop! A Marriage Declaration,' 'As Beautiful as an Angel,' 'Clash! The Photo Battle' and 'On the Glittering Ice.'

The final twelve episodes are 'Confession to the Virgin Mary,' 'The Suspicious Grandfather,' 'Kappa Trouble at the Science Expo,' 'The Silence Sentence,' 'Persia Travels Through Time,' 'The Starlit Cinema,' 'A Tulip's Proposal,' 'Little Lovers,' 'Tears on the Spring Wind,' 'Do Not Go, Gaku and Riki!,' 'The Fairy Returns' and 'I Love Persia!'.

The bonus disc includes the clean opening and ending sequences, the ESCAPE! music clip, the Yume Sekai Hodgepodge pilot and Kaiten Mokuba. Newly recorded cast commentaries accompany episodes 1, 14, 24, 28, 39, 45 and 48. Mina Tominaga joins Yuko Mita and Shigeru Chiba for episodes 1 and 39; Yu Mizushima and Keiichi Nanba for episodes 14, 45 and 48; and Yu Mizushima and Saeko Shimazu for episodes 24 and 28.

Mina Tominaga voices Persia, with Yu Mizushima as Riki, Keiichi Nanba as Gaku, Daisuke Gori as Simba, Yuko Mita as Puripuri, Shigeru Chiba as Geragera, Sukekiyo Kameyama as Mesomeso and Masako Sugaya as Bonbon. Akio Nojima and Gara Takashima play Persia's parents, Saeko Shimazu plays Sayo and Yuzuru Fujimoto plays Goken Muroi.
