映画 花まんま
A brother and sister's story unfolds around a mysterious memory. The long-awaited film adaptation of the Naoki Prize-winning bestseller brings tears time and again.
Hanamanma, the short-story collection that won the one hundred and thirty-third Naoki Prize in 2005, depicts a strange experience shared by siblings. It is a representative work by an author praised for carefully distinguishing the shades of memory while delicately weaving together human sorrow and warmth. The film arrived in spring 2025, approximately twenty years after the book's first publication.
Filmed entirely in the Kansai region and told throughout in its local dialect, this warm, realistic human drama offers both laughter and tears.
Toshiki and Fumiko are a brother and sister living on their own in a working-class neighbourhood of Osaka.
