Story

The right half was first discovered six years ago.

A corpse split cleanly in two down the middle...

No matter how extensively the search was conducted at the time, the other half was never found.

Six years later, the missing left half is discovered.

Half a corpse, appearing across time and space...

It has not decayed at all, as though the person had been alive only moments earlier.

Mizuki and Ryuki, rookie investigators in the special investigation unit ABIS, begin investigating the Half Body serial killings together with their eyeball-shaped AI partners, Aiba and Tama.

They travel between past and present, dreams and reality, to uncover the truth.

Move between dreams and reality to uncover the case

Control the two protagonists, Mizuki and Ryuki, who belong to ABIS, the Metropolitan Police Department's special investigation unit, and confront the Half Body serial killings.

The game consists of Investigation sections, where you examine crime scenes and question people in the real world, and Somnium sections, where you enter the dreams of persons of interest. Alternate between the two to approach the truth.

During Investigation, inspect the scene and interview those involved to find evidence and information about the case. During Somnium, enter a person's dream world to search for the truth hidden deep within their heart.

Investigation

Advance the story by visiting different locations in the real world, examining scenes and questioning people involved.

Mizuki and Ryuki each wear a prosthetic left eye equipped with advanced artificial intelligence: an AI-Ball.

Use its various special abilities to obtain clues about the case.

Special visual functions such as X-ray vision and thermography can reveal information invisible to the naked eye.

New elements let you apply the AI-Ball's special visual functions throughout a virtual space to conduct an investigation, or recreate the circumstances of an incident as though watching a drama.

Somnium

Use a machine called the Psync device to enter a person's dreams and search for concealed truths. This is one of the game's distinctive elements.

Within the dream, Aiba or Tama appears in a female form, connected to the protagonist's mind, and conducts the investigation on their behalf.

You can remain in someone's dream for six minutes.

Enter the subject's subconscious and overcome various obstacles within that time limit to discover clues.

Dream worlds are formed from the subject's personality and memories, and each has its own rules.

The aim of Somnium is to unlock Mental Locks and reach vital clues hidden at the deepest level of consciousness.

Airborne and underwater environments are new to Somnium. The preceding game allowed movement only on foot; this installment adds vertical movement, letting you experience a greater variety of dream worlds.

A simplified Psync is also available during Investigation. Although it cannot reveal the crucial information obtained in Somnium, it can help determine whether someone is lying.

Mizuki

Voiced by Tomoyo Kurosawa.

One of the game's protagonists. She is a Psyncer who uses the Psync device to enter the minds of suspects and persons of interest.

She lost her left eye in a certain incident and now wears an AI-Ball prosthetic eye equipped with advanced artificial intelligence.

Her strong physique and outstanding physical abilities earned her an exceptional appointment to the Metropolitan Police Department's special investigation unit ABIS, despite still being a high-school student.

Aiba

Voiced by Akari Kito.

An autonomous AI. She normally takes the form of an eyeball and resides in Mizuki's left eye socket.

Her work is to assist Mizuki's investigations by gathering information through network connections and using functions such as X-ray vision and thermography.

Her long experience assisting investigations has made her adept at reading the subtleties of human psychology and emotions.

Ryuki

Voiced by Atsushi Tamaru.

One of the game's protagonists, and a rookie investigator with a strong sense of justice.

He is not an aggressive, hot-blooded type; his personality is rather reserved and gentle.

He is a highly educated young man from a wealthy family, but his parents are gone and his younger brother has also died.

Despite this painful past, he takes on difficult cases together with his partner Tama, who is fitted into his left eye socket.

Tama

Voiced by Ai Kakuma.

Like Aiba, she is an AI-Ball equipped with advanced artificial intelligence.

She normally resides in Ryuki's left eye socket and supports his work.

She is a motherly presence who combines strictness with kindness—though she is ninety percent strictness—and gives Ryuki the kick he needs to get moving.

She is also a very sadistic character who loves literally smacking backsides.
