Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 is the true sequel to Azure Striker Gunvolt (2014) and Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 (2016).

This full-fledged 2D action game lets you switch between new protagonist Kirin and series protagonist Gunvolt. It retains the high-speed, high-excitement action and Live Novel conversations that unfold during combat, both celebrated features of the series. It also introduces more than 150 Image Pulses, through which characters from earlier games appear to support your actions.

As in the preceding games, Keiji Inafune, then CCO of LEVEL5 comcept, serves as executive producer and action supervisor. The PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 editions deliver the series' faithfully evolved action and presentation.

The PlayStation 4 physical package includes all update content and all DLC, including the additional scenario Epilogue: ATEMS Chapter.

The PlayStation 4 version supports upgrading to the PlayStation 5 version, which can be played at 120 FPS.

Story

In the near future, people have begun awakening to special powers known as Septima, becoming Adepts. Gunvolt and his companions have brought the conflict with the multinational Adept alliance Eden to an end.

Yet Gunvolt continues to place himself in battle and finally awakens to the Next Phase, a stage beyond Septima.

The shadow organization Ura Yakumo, the counterpart to Sumeragi, notices what has happened.

Kirin, a shrine maiden with the power of sealing called the Fetters, seals Gunvolt's awakening and declares:

“You're going to take responsibility for what happens from now on.”

A light novel unfolds through the fully voiced Live Novel

Kirin is a girl from Ura Yakumo who has been ordered to purify Gunvolt. She is the world's only Adept whose Fetters can seal Septima.

Gunvolt, the boy once called the Azure Striker, is the incarnation of a Primal Dragon sealed by 1,000 holy swords.

ZedΩ, who commands the limitless energy of nuclear fusion, is the strongest Septima Adept and Gunvolt's counterpart.

As the story progresses, compelling characters join your companions one after another, creating lively, fully voiced Live Novel scenes.

Conversations between the characters continue throughout the action. These exchanges delve further into their backgrounds and expand the game's world.

Powerful slashing and lightning-fast heroic action

New protagonist Kirin combines graceful swordplay with a blade concealed in her monk's staff and talismans that weaken enemies. Her Raitei Rensa technique—Arc Chain—instantly closes the distance from anywhere, unleashing countless slashes to defeat enemies with a decisive attack.

Gunvolt builds on the series' established combination of darts and lightning. His spectacular Voltic Arts include Spark Dash, which passes through enemies while destroying them, and Lightning Assault, which teleports him into point-blank range to unleash lightning.

Switching between these two characters and their bold 2D action is a major attraction of the game.

When Kirin's HP reaches zero, Gunvolt enters a berserk state. The overwhelming violence with which he tears through the game delivers another kind of exhilarating action.

The Cyber Diva's songs support the protagonists

Stylish play builds Kudos. Earn enough and Lumen, the singer who protects Gunvolt, brings her songs to Kirin and Gunvolt's battles. Meg Sakuragawa performs her singing voice.

Seven new songs are included, alongside many songs from earlier games.

Image Pulses born from Kirin and Gunvolt's meeting

Collect fragments of memories, called Image Chips, to unlock phantoms of the past called Image Pulses. This collection system provides plenty to pursue over extended play.

Summon Gunvolt's former companions and rivals as Image Pulses. More than 150 different effects include direct attacks and abilities granted to your character.

Limited Edition physical contents

The original package includes a full-color Azure Striker Gunvolt 3 art and setting-material book, the game's soundtrack on two CDs, and a “WanVolt” acrylic keychain depicting Gunvolt in dog form. These physical contents match those of the Nintendo Switch edition.

An A4 clear file with newly drawn artwork was offered in limited quantities as an external preorder bonus. Its design matches the Nintendo Switch bonus. The original retailer offer has ended.
