PlayStation 4 Babylon's Fall

Online service ended — game no longer playable

Babylon's Fall was an online-only game. Its service ended on February 28, 2023, as confirmed by its developer, PlatinumGames. This physical Used copy does not provide access to a playable game.

The following description preserves the game's original story, battle systems and service requirements for reference. Its original online features, planned updates and upgrade benefits no longer make the game playable.

Babylon's Fall

Square Enix and PlatinumGames presented an action RPG offering exhilarating hack-and-slash combat through combinations of up to four weapons and online multiplayer for up to four people, providing limitless strategic possibilities.

At release, regular updates were planned after launch, with additional game modes playable at no additional cost once the game had been purchased.

Story

In the desperate city of Neo Babylon, a deadly illness spreads beneath blue sunlight, and monsters called Gallu hunt human beings.

Brought there as captives, the protagonist and their companions are transformed into superhuman soldiers called Sentinels, condemned to a destiny of conquering the immense tower of Babylon that rises into the sky...

Character creation

Players selected one of three races and created their own character.

Combinations forged from four weapons

The tactical battle system combined four weapons: two lightweight weapons wielded in the hands and two controlled by the Gideon Arms.

The Ghost Attacks unleashed from the Gideon Arms were especially spectacular.

Attack modes

Sentinels could switch among three modes with different actions and attacks: Standard, Strong and Technical.

These modes allowed players to choose varied attacks to suit the enemies, their companions and the situation on the battlefield.

Original online requirements

The game required an internet connection, with connection charges borne by the player. Playing on PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5 also required a paid PlayStation Plus subscription and a free Square Enix account.

The country registered to the Square Enix account determined the server used for online multiplayer.

The original Hanging Garden player site provided details of the required equipment and operating environment; those requirements were subject to change.

Original service notices

Maintenance could temporarily prevent access to the service. Server congestion could make connections difficult, and unscheduled maintenance could occur.

The original notice stated that any termination of some or all of the service would be announced in advance on the official website. That termination has now taken place.

Original PlayStation 5 upgrade support

The original download entitlement included both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions. Owners of the PlayStation 4 version could download the PlayStation 5 version at no additional charge.

Owners of the physical PlayStation 4 edition had to insert the disc into the PlayStation 5 each time they downloaded or played the PlayStation 5 version. A PlayStation 5 Digital Edition without a disc drive could not use this physical-edition upgrade.

The same game data could originally be used across the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 versions when the same linked PlayStation Network and Square Enix accounts were used. These historical upgrade and account features do not restore access after the service closure.
