Live the life you choose. Dynasty Warriors 8 Empires combines the exhilarating action of one warrior battling thousands with the simulation elements of the Empires series. New character Xun Yu joins a world of political decisions, relationships and dramatic changes of fortune.

Your own Three Kingdoms life

Build achievements and rise through the ranks, undermine rivals through slander, or perfect your martial strength and fight your way to the top. Your style of play opens the way to many different lives.

The drama ranges from an officer's personal growth, marriage and the birth of children to the retirement of rulers and the succession of their factions. These events bring your own experience of the Three Kingdoms to life.

Evolving strategy and tactics

The previous game's special stratagems return in an expanded form. New large-scale stratagems temporarily withdraw allied units to prepare a plan affecting the entire battlefield, while other techniques create a richer contest of schemes and countermeasures.

Temporary bases can be built anywhere with enough space, giving attacks on and defences of strongholds greater tactical depth. Weather and time also influence the battle: launch a surprise attack at night or use the wind to strengthen the effect of fire attacks.

Create your own world

The familiar Empires editing system offers much greater freedom. Customize an officer's facial contours, wrinkles and beard individually, choose new armour components, and use a wider range of colours.

When two officers marry, the game can automatically combine aspects of their appearance to create their child's looks. Edit your army's soldiers, warhorses, flags and armies as well, adjusting horse colours and size to build your own Three Kingdoms world.

Share and cooperate

As in the previous game, upload and download data for edited officers, armies and scenarios. Online cooperative play lets players fight together.

New officer: Xun Yu

Xun Yu is the strategist who supported Cao Cao's rise. His many recommendations and plans earned him recognition as a talent fit to assist a ruler while still young. His keen insight and extensive network also made him an accomplished judge and recruiter of talented people. He belongs to Wei, favours the formation staff, and is voiced by Takashi Ohara.
