More Way of the Samurai than you imagined
A spin-off of the Way of the Samurai series arrives! Keeping the sword action and deep exchanges of offense and defense characteristic of the series, this game lets you enjoy hack-and-slash adventuring.
Its procedurally generated dungeons offer a fresh experience no matter how many times you play.
Story
Beside a lone pine tree at a mountain pass, a man made his living as a swordsmith and lived with his daughter.
Unfortunately, he was somewhat careless with money, and the household was always in financial trouble. Eventually, his daughter was taken away as collateral for his debts...
“Allow me to help you repay that debt.”
A good-natured samurai appeared before the despondent smith. For some reason, he volunteered to help raise the money...
To rescue the swordsmith's daughter, the samurai stepped into forbidden territory...
Different modes by day and night
By day, earn money selling swords as the swordsmith at the mountain pass. By night, enter another realm—a dungeon—from the lone pine tree, slay strange creatures and obtain swords and materials.
Repay the debt and bring the daughter home!
Exhilarating sword action
Combat is based on three patterns: attacking, defending and breaking your opponent's guard.
Your equipped sword changes your stance and available techniques, with more than one hundred different swords available.
The nine stances each have different actions or give the player special effects, allowing you to enjoy many combat styles.
Master the special actions Katana Time, which unleashes secret techniques, and Kiwami, which delivers a powerful blow, to venture deeper into the dungeons.
Level up yourself and your sword in changing dungeons
You can enter the dungeon connected to the other realm by examining the lone pine tree at night.
Its layout changes each time you enter, keeping repeated journeys fresh.
Inside, you must manage both Health and Vitality. If Health reaches zero, your character collapses and loses everything they are carrying. While your sword is sheathed, Vitality is consumed to restore Health automatically.
Defeating monsters in the dungeon raises your character's rank. Each increase fully restores Health and Vitality and raises their maximum values, but your character's rank resets once you return to the surface.
Your sword also has its own level. Raising it unlocks new techniques and the conditions for sword titles, making the weapon stronger.
This sword growth carries over when you return to the surface, so take care not to collapse and lose your weapon.
Manipulate the three factions and run the smithy
Run the swordsmith's business by crafting weapons from dungeon materials and selling the weapons you collect.
Stir up conflict among the mountain pass's three factions—the Akadama Clan, Kurofu Family and Post Town Faction—to create demand for swords yourself.
Increase your orders and earn more money with the “when war breaks out, the blacksmith profits” system!
Master the art of prostration as well as the sword!
Continuing the Way of the Samurai tradition, the game includes an action for kneeling and bowing in apology.
It may seem pointless at first, but proves useful in many situations: apologizing for wrongdoing, begging an enemy for forgiveness, or asking for more time to repay a debt.
Whether you are forgiven, however, depends on the person you are pleading with.
The evolved New Tsujigiri Mode multiplayer system
The Tsujigiri multiplayer system introduced in Way of the Samurai 4 returns in an evolved form. This time, you can also go and cut down the real thing.
On each dungeon floor, New Tsujigiri Mode randomly connects you with either an asynchronous double of another player or a live player in real time.
Enjoy the tension of never knowing when someone might betray you. Defeating a double earns swords and items; defeating a live player lets you take their money. Even if you are defeated in this mode, your sword is not lost.
Symbol chat lets you indicate cooperation or a duel, but switching that indication makes betrayal possible at any time.
Repeated ambushes and betrayals make you a wanted outlaw, targeted by every player.
If you are about to lose, try prostrating yourself and begging for your life.
